Keynote - Craniofacial Surgery

Bio

Mr Aitor de Gea Rico is a recently appointed Consultant in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery with Paediatric and Adult Craniofacial Surgery practice working between Aintree and Alder Hey Childrens hospital in Liverpool.

He emphasizes that he is learning more as a Consultant than he did as a Specialty trainee. 

Having qualified in Dentistry from the University of Barcelona in Spain, his first job in the UK was as an NHS General Dental Practitioner in Workington, Cumbria. He studied Medicine at Barts and The London and entered higher surgical training in the North West with rotations in Manchester, Lancashire and Liverpool.

He completed the Craniofacial Surgery fellowship in Alder Hey Childrens Hospital and complemented his subspecialty training with international attachments in deformity surgery in Brugge and Antwerp, Belgium and in Craniofacial surgery in Chennai, India and Hopital Necker Enfants-Malades in Paris. 

He is one of the new BAOMS SSGI co-leads for Craniofacial Surgery and is determined to establish a robust link between the 5 UK units to support a standardized pathway for all OMFS trainees in the UK to gain early exposure to Craniofacial Surgery.
