New information on Specialty Recruitment from 2027
A list of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) has been released by Mr Ian Sharp (Chair of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Specialty Advisory Committee at the Royal College of Surgeons) related to the new specialty recruitment process from 2027 onwards.
These questions were collected during the webinar held in October last year.

JTG Position on 2026 Higher Specialty Training Recruitment Cycle
Following the release of ST1 and ST3 posts for this year’s applicants to preference on Oriel, the JTG became aware of concerns regarding both the geographic distribution and the number of available training posts. In response, we formally wrote to British Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (BAOMS) to outline these concerns (please see Attachment 1).
BAOMS responded sympathetically and subsequently escalated the matter to the Specialty Advisory Committee (SAC). We have now received their response, which is attached as Attachment 2.
Released December 2024, this report helped bring training forward by investigating the systemic barriers, inefficiencies, and cultural issues that hinder trainee progression.
