What is the training pathway for a medic and when can I do dentistry?
A post graduate dentistry degree can be completed any time after a medical degree however, most commonly it is completed aftet core surgical training or foundation training.
What post-graduate dentistry courses are there?
King’s College London offers a 3 year course specifically for medical graduates and a 4 year long post graduate dental course. Aberdeen and the University of Central Lancashire offer post graduate dental courses that are 4 years long. How to build a successful application?
Demonstrate interest and commitment to specialty
Taster weeks and lectures/ online events, showing that you have a good understanding of what OMFS entails and how it differs from similar specialities
Highlighting academic achievements/ audits/ research
However big or small it is important to show that you are hard working outside of just being a doctor
Understanding that your role with shift from doctor to student
This can be difficult to adjust to, you are no longer a decision maker
Looking at application deadlines and entry requirements
Being prepared ensures you can think about maximising your experiences to better your application
Open days
Most universities have open days, this gives you an opportunity to speak to other people doing the course, thinking about the course structure and how it fits around your life
Looking into finances
Arranging finances and considering the timing of when to do a second degree will mean you are able to do the course as best as you can and in a way that means you are comfortable
