Hi everyone, I'm Helena and I am a final year medical student at the University of Exeter. My interest in the specialty started in 3rd year when I accidentally joined an OMFS list instead of a plastics list, straight away I could see myself in the specialty. Our hospital placements don't include Maxillofacial surgery and hence all my shadowing since then has come from placements I have organised myself. Additionally, I am planning to undertake my elective in OMFS this year. Although I am only at the beginning of my career journey, I have made a few contacts along the way and gathered knowledge around how to pursue an OMFS career and would happily share this with others!
